#TalkListenLearn Campaign - Supporting Parents
The internet is an integral part of our lives, providing fantastic opportunities to learn, create and connect, but the online world also creates challenges. Webwise and the National Parents Council Primary are running a campaign to support parents in their engagement with their children’s lives online. The #TalkListenLearn campaign encourages parents to have open and regular conversations with their child about the internet. To talk to them about benefits and the risks, but also to listen to what their child has to say and to learn about their life online.
Research consistently shows that many children do not tell if something goes wrong online. Having conversations with your child is one of the most effective ways of ensuring that they have a safe and positive experience, and to help them to feel comfortable coming to you if they encounter an issue. Everyone has a role to play in creating a safer and better internet, and the #TalkListenLearn campaign helps to support families.
At St. Conleth’s National School, we are committed to ensuring a safe and responsible digital environment for all our students and staff. Our approach to safer internet usage is guided by two key policies: the Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) and our Cybersecurity Policy, both of which can be found in the School Policies tab.
The Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) outlines clear guidelines for responsible use of the internet, digital devices, and online communication tools within the school. All students and staff are expected to follow these rules to promote respectful, purposeful, and secure online behaviour.
Our Cybersecurity Policy is designed to protect the school's digital infrastructure and data. It includes measures such as secure passwords, regular software updates, and education on recognising online threats such as phishing or malware.
Through a combination of policy, education, and ongoing support, we aim to equip our students with the skills and awareness they need to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly. Regular e-safety lessons and workshops further reinforce our commitment to promoting safe internet use both in and out of school.
We highly recommend exploring the resources below, some with your child, in order to equip yourself with the knowledge needed to guide your child in the responsible use of the internet.
